About Harper BMI
Harper Bariatric Medicine Institute has lead the way in developing and performing innovative weight-loss surgery for patients who have a body mass index greater than 40, suffer from related health conditions and have tried other weight-loss methods.
Minimally invasive laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding and the innovative Sapala-Wood Micropouch™ process are just a few examples of the innovative bariatric procedures performed by our exceptional surgeons.
The Sapala-Wood Micropouch™ process was developed at Harper University Hospital and is the result of 17 years of focused experience in bariatric surgery involving several thousand patients. An advanced variation of the gastric bypass surgery, the Micropouch™ procedure produces a small stomach pouch about 2 cc or the size of a grape.
Another bariatric procedure performed at Harper BMI is the minimally invasive, laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. Unlike open weight loss surgery, the laparoscopic bypass requires just six small incisions, each a centimeter or less in length. Only 12 percent of the thousands of gastric bypass procedures performed in the US are currently performed using laparoscopic techniques.
