John Webber, M.D. Harper BMI

John Webber, MD is one of the early pioneers who brought laparoscopic surgery to Southeastern Michigan. Dr. Webber has been performing laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for eight years and has one of the largest experience bases in all of Michigan. In fact, Dr. Webber was one of the first surgeons in Southeastern Michigan to start performing laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypasses.

Dr. Webber is board certified with the American Board of Surgery and has over 11 years of surgical experience including trauma and general surgery as well as an extensive background in weight loss surgery and advanced laparoscopic procedures.

Currently, Dr. Webber is the Director of the Minimally Invasive Section at Harper University Hospital and Chief of General Surgery at Harper University Hospital. Dr. Webber has performed over 1,000 surgical weight loss procedures and has devoted a large portion of his career to weight loss surgery. His clinical interests include Minimally Invasive Surgery, laparoscopic and open Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (Lap Band® and REALIZE™ Band) and sleeve gastrectomy.

Dr. Webber is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Michigan State Medical Society, Wayne County Medical Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Webber is a full-time faculty member and an assistant professor of surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Although Dr. Webber is one of the busiest surgeons in Michigan, he somehow manages to still find time for his wife and four children. It is hard to find a surgeon who is more committed to his patients than Dr. Webber who is well known for the extra steps he takes to prevent complications and ensure excellent weight loss outcomes. Dr. Webber attended college in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan and then came to Wayne State University for medical school and residency. After completing his residency, Dr. Webber continued to practice at Harper University Hospital, where he has remained on staff for the last eleven years.
