Your Journey to a Healthy Life Starts Here

Michael H. Wood M.D., F.A.C.S.Welcome to the premier issue of Journey to a Healthy Life, a publication of Harper BMI in Detroit designed to help you achieve your weight loss goals and maintain a healthy weight through helpful post weight loss surgery tips. If you’ve had gastric bypass surgery, Lap-Band or another form of weight loss surgery — or if you are just considering it — this e-newsletter is for you. Harper BMI is a great source of information about bariatric surgery in Detroit, Michigan.

As the name of this e-newsletter suggests, good health is not a destination — it’s a journey. Along the way, you will be able to celebrate your accomplishments and weather through possible setbacks. That’s OK. It’s all part of your journey. What’s important is that you keep moving forward toward a healthier life by making positive lifestyle adjustments, and our weight loss surgery tips are designed to help.

It’s also important to keep your goals manageable. Don’t focus on losing 100 pounds. Focus on losing the next 2 or 3 pounds. Give yourself plenty of opportunities to applaud your successful progress. This also goes for exercise. When I go jogging, I focus on the next lap I need to complete — not the entire distance I’m running. It keeps me from getting overwhelmed.

Speaking of exercise, it’s a good idea to get a fitness partner. If someone is expecting to meet you for a walk around the neighborhood or a game of racquetball, you’ll be less likely to skip out on your daily activity. Plus, it’s a great way to stay socially and psychologically engaged in a healthy life.

Joining a support group can also help. In fact, people who attend support groups are three times more likely to achieve and maintain their weight loss goals. Check the Harper BMI Calendar  for a list of upcoming support group times and locations. They’re a great way to connect with others who are working toward a healthier life.

We are very excited about this newsletter because it’s designed especially for you. We hope it will be helpful to you along your journey. We will include different topics that may be of interest to you, such as exercise strategies, healthy menus, helpful hints for losing weight and maintaining your weight. We also hope some of you will participate in the newsletter by sharing your success stories.

If there are topics you’d like to see us address in future issues, or if you have any questions about the weight loss surgery tips we’ve provided, please feel free call us at 1-877-DMC-W8W8 or contact us online.

Yours in good health,

Michael H. Wood, M.D., F.A.C.S.
